VR3 Impedance
« on: 25 Mar 2015, 04:55 pm »
Hello,
The VR3 are rated 6 ohms and I've got a Mcintosh MC 2300 amp with taps for 4 ohms and 8 ohms. I was wondering if the speakers impedance has any dips that would suggest that I should go with 4 ohms or would any of them do?

Try both taps to see which one sounds best.  This is the recognized practice that most tube amplifier manufacturers recommend.  Even if the speaker has no dips or peaks in the impedance response and has a "flat" impedance curve, sometimes using the "wrong" tap leads to better sound.  Strange, but true!
