Welcome to the term "Cylinder Index".....heretofore called "CI"

A man's CI is the total of ALL internal combustion cylinders he owns. Everything counts if YOU own it.....cars, motorcycles, airplanes, lawnmowers, weed wackers, model airplane engines, you name it. Count up the total internal combustion cylinders you own and the total is your CI.

--Air compressors don't count--not internal combustion
--It is not required to be running to count
--If it is only stored on your property it doesn't count, you must own it
--If it is stolen you technically don't own it

I would have thought they would count for one cylinder per rotor, maybe two, since they're two stroke and would have twice as many power strokes per revolution.
They are internal combustion, at least.

How about modifying the CI to include the most cylinders you have ever had under your control in a vehicle at one time?
I might qualify, then, as I used to fly a plane (Lockhead P2V7 Neptune) with two 18 cylinder two row radial engines when I was a young whippersnapper.
Those were two Wright R-3350s with 3350 cubic inches developing around 3200hp at around 3200 rpm. That's 36 cylinders.

CI is low now, though, at 13.

Ya know Ryan, I saw this game on another forum and thought I'd copy and past it here.
I specifically thought of you about that Mazda comment, and thought about deleting that line just for you.
But you've got more Mazdas in your driveway with pistons than you do with rotors, so you've not out entirely.

Actually 3 per rev, because there are 3 combustion faces per rotor.  Every motorsports sanctioning body counted a 1.3L 2-rotor as a 3.6L V6.  So if I cared about your silly piston game Bob, and I don't, I'd already have 18   

And they're not 2-stroke, they just inject oil like a 2-stroke does.

I LOVE offshore boats with multiple outboards, that just gets me so jazzed!

Ahem.

I am at 23 for my index.  A couple of V6's in the daily drivers, the V8 in my 69 T Bird, and 2 pieces of gas powered lawn equipment, plus my snowblower that I had initially forgotten.  Don't know how after this winter!

Now, years ago when I owned multiple inline 4 streetbikes I could have doubled that number...

I nearly said three cylinder equivalence per rotor, then refreshed my understanding of the Wankel and noticed that only one of the three rotor faces is involved in combustion; the other two are involved in the intake or exhaust process. So there is a single power impulse per revolution (of the rotor) - and two stroke in that there is a power stroke on every revolution, plus they behave and sound like 2-strokes to me.
I'm still not clear about the relationship between the rotor rpm and the output shaft rpm.
