Does anyone know if the new anti piracy encoding affects sound quality?

I've never known anything released both ways to do an A/B test

What encoding are you talking about. SACD and DVD-A?

No whatever they do for the new anti piracy on redbook audio CDs.  Perhaps the word encoding doesn't properly describe what it is that is done to the CD?

I read that it emits a high frequency that is suppose to be inaudiable.

they fuck the cd for you with an 800 pound gorrilla and yeah you can hear it scream.

if your refering to EMI's copy control they have put errors into the disc every... errr 10 seconds or so...

and its very much easy to hear... it wouldnt take an audio file system to hear the errors it generates... its bad news... dont buy these discs....

and the best news is they are still easy to copy so they have gone totally backwards.

Worse. Van Morrison's "What's wrong with this picture" (original CD, not copy) jams up digital out on my Pioneer DV-565A. Interruptions every 3-5 seconds. Analogue out sound fine, but what about people who rely on S/PDIF only? A shame.

Not long ago there was a lot of talk about Dido's Life For Rent which had a similar problem because of its copy protection. I bought that disc and it played and ripped fine. I never noticed a single glitch. It had a lot of information about the copy protection but I didnt find any problems. I read somewhere that they are printed to put people off, that is to say, the disc actually has no copy protection.

I did have problems ripping Norah Jones' Feels Like Home. This is I guess is one of those REAL copy protected CDs. The sound was pretty disappointing.

There are a number of negative comments about the sound quality of Cassandra Wilson's Glamoured which is copy protected; it actually doesn't even conform to redbood CD standards and doesn't play at all in some players.
