popup issues
« on: 6 Feb 2015, 02:44 am »
I am suddenly getting horrible popup issues with Audio Circle and another site. I use Norton 360. It is always enabled. After getting infected, I ran Norton system scan, Malware Bytes, and SpyBot with no luck.  Now one of the incessant popups is Spybot.

IE won't open.  It sits and spins on the Yahoo toolbar. Suggestions?

No pop up's here.  Firefox w adblock and no ads reported.  And Norton 360 :P Could be part of the yahoo?
I am sure there is a wiser IT person but my practice is restart IE with all add ons disables and then start adding.  Delete all and replace, I have had the best luck using as limited toolbar etc stuff.

Try Panda. http://www.pandasecurity.com/usa/homeusers/solutions/activescan/

In my experience, they go the extra mile.

Best of luck!!

Thanks for the tips.  Yahoo is working now.  Maybe it was a Yahoo/IE issue at the same time I was getting popups. The popups are when I use FireFox.

I will try some more fixes tomorrow.

All better now.  One of the things I tried must have worked. But it seems like a complete computer shut down and start up was needed to complete the fix.  Just a reboot did not work.  I tried that several times. Is there a difference?

Thanks for the suggestions.

Forget IE, it dont offer pop blocker, seems need exclude the Yahoo toolbar at the ControlPanel.
You would use Firefox w/Ghostery enabled to block popup.

Reboot vs. complete shutdown should be the same. Bizarre. It's sounds like things are better now.

Note when running any of these cleanup tools you need to follow the directions precisely. In come cases that means the cleanup program needs to run before the machine boots to Windows or you need to boot Windows in safe mode and run the program from there.

Thanks Doublej

I did not notice any special instructions.  But the friend who recommended Malware Bytes to me years ago just (this morning) told me to run it in safe mode.  Is that still F8 for Windows 7?

Yes hit F8 before the Windows 7 splash screen

Here a possibly useful link on the topic.
