Musical Paradise MP-P1 Tube Phono MM/MC $400

Amazing tube phono preamp in perfect working condition with original boxes and packaging. Looks identical to the pic. First owner; bought new in May 2014. The preamp has between 200-300 hours of use. $400 obo with the stock Chinese tubes.

Optional, $60 for 4 x Sovtek 12AX7LPS with less than 30 hours on them. Have receipt and boxes for these tubes, they're "like new". Major improvement with these.

Reason for sale, I accepted an offer I couldn't refuse on a higher end phono from Germany.

Hi! Been reading about this phono stage. Updated review forthcoming from Wall of Sound. Interested but need to know how it sounds with MC carts because 78dB is a lot of gain. Always concerned about tube rush. What's been your experience? Thanks!

Perfectly fine with MC's in the 0.3 - 0.4mV range. But I use a passive attenuator after the phono. If you're using an active linestage preamp, it might be a little too much. You can use variants of the 12AX7 tube that have lower gain - I'm using 5751's now.
I decided to keep this phono btw, it's no longer on the market.

You can never have enough phonostages! :D :D

Seriously, that demonstrates the value of the MP certainly. What attenuator are you using?

Many thanks!

It's a DACT CT2 stereo. I run that into an Opera tube integrated and keep the volume wide open on the Opera to bypass its' volume pot.

I'm the Wall of Sound guy, btw.  :)

Basic consensus on this phono is that it's an absolute steal - even moreso for you Americans. Caveats are (a) be prepared to ditch the stock tubes, they're lousy, and (b) don't try to run this into a direct-coupled SS preamp like Bryston, LFD, etc. There's a subsonic oscillation issue, something to do with DC leakage. It's fixable but just be aware. (lots of discussion threads on the MP-P1 over at Canuck Audiomart forum)

Thanks. OK, with regard to the DACT CT2 stereo attenuator, is that the 100Kohm version? By subbing 5751's and running through the attenuator, need to get the gain down to 60-63dB. My cart is happy in that range. Anything more risks overload.
