This is an interesting development. Korg and Noritake (Japanese miniature vacuum fluorescent display specialists) have developed a miniature triode that is in the form of a chip and functions as a tube, but on 2% of the power and with a 30,000hr lifespan. It can be soldered onto a circuit board.
