The Lampizator Big Six is quite simply the most stunning and musical piece of kit I have ever owned, and by far the best DAC, easily besting the Berkeley Alpha DAC and the highly regarded Weiss 202 in my system. You can switch between DSD and traditional files with a simple press of the button on the front of the unit. It is that easy!
Built in July of 2014, this unit is in great condition both cosmetically and sonically, barely broken in during the few months that I have had it. It is really TWO DACS in one, as it has that magical Big Six chip that is so perfect for redbook, while also containing the same DSD board that the Lampizator 7 has.
Furthermore, it has Jupiter caps, which are just stunning and a terrific upgrade.
The tube complement for this unit is as follows: 6922, VT 99, and 247B (it will work with almost any big bottle rectifier you can think of). The stock tubes—which include a vintage RCA VT 99—are outstanding and very hard to beat, though the unit is a tube roller's dream and can be tuned to your very specific tastes depending on the sound you like. I rolled a number of tubes and found that the National Union VT 99 was my favorite, though I can easily see how others might prefer the RCA, Raytheon, or Sylvania. My favorite 6922 tube is a Telefunken, but again, the stock tubes are simply excellent.
