I'm seeking a great bang for the buck DAC; stand alone DAC is fine; DAC/HP is fine.

Only need USB input.
At least 2496 via usb. [Most of my music files are 2496]
If it can be run without the +5v usb leg, that would be ideal. but not necessary. [That would allow for "data" only usb cable].

Ideal = $200, but I'll stretch for sound quality. I'm wide open. Audio GD might be an option.

Check out the Ifi iDSD Nano.  Its in your price range and offers a lot of quality plus it will do DSD and has a headphone amp.  I have one I'm not using but thinking of keeping it as a backup for myself.  If you buy one and don't like it you the resale is excellent so you won't lose much.
