I stumbled across this as I was updating the reviews section.
Has anyone ever heard these?

Very briefly. They had the decca ribbon tweeter and 2-20" Hartley subs in acoustic suspension towers x2. Can't say I heard then at optimum as I would have set them differently. I can tell you that they beam hi frequencies so much that it made Acoustic model II or IIIs seem like freedom.

I think they are out classed by current versions of dynamic speakers with subs. Not only in dynamics but matched in resolution, without the hassle of the big panels and setup. I would like to hear them again but they don't interest me in the least given the hassles of ownership.

That depends. The person Ron is referring to did not have 24" Hartleys. They might have even been 18" or smaller. In any case I've seen and heard the same system, and those were definitely not that big.

Huh? It was the HQD. i.e. Hartley, Quad, Decca, (just like the picture in the link) with Levinson gear (JC2 pre, ML-2 power) and yes, electronic crossovers etc. At that time he didn't have enough space in the room for the 24" Harleys.
