Hugo TT and 2Qute DAC's announced
« on: 15 Jan 2015, 01:22 am »
At the 2015 CES Chord introduced two new derivatives of the award winning and much heralded $2400 USD Hugo DAC.  The sound quality from Hugo's FPGA chipset was undeniable but it's portable intentions (small size, battery power, 3.5 mm headphone outputs, micro USB inputs, tight/closely spaced coax/toslink inputs and RCA outputs, etc.) gave pause to those who envisioned home use.  Thus the $4795 USD Hugo TT (table top) with improved power supply, XLR outputs, larger case, more traditional display, standard USB input, 1/4 inch headphone outputs, etc.; and the $1795 USD Chordette 2Qute that replaces the Qute EX with the Hugo guts sans batteries while adding a $400 linear power supply:

Puts those of us with EX units in a pinch if we want to sell and rebuy to the next level.

You're right, the 2Qute should be killer.

With any purchase and especially with DACs (almost anything with a computer in it) you must figure in how much use/enjoyment you get out of the product per month versus potential depreciation to determine if the purchase would be a good investment.  I'm confident that you'll continue to derive enjoyment from your EX purchase (a quality piece to be sure) and perhaps can resist the marketing forces (at least for a little bit) to sell, swap, and/or replace.
