Here's another attempt at a musical instrument-shaped speaker, this time a violin, charmingly fashioned out of 100-300 year old wood in the misguided hope that it makes sense, somehow.

I wonder how a violin sounds playing brass instruments - or anything else. I guess according to this logic there should all sorts of shapes adorning the top of our speakers.

Good visual.  Too many deny how much a speaker cabinet can color the sound (some even design for it to do so).

Have read that some cabinets produce more total sound energy than the drivers.  If that's hard to believe think about small drivers in relatively large cabinets and the proportion of driver area to cabinet surface area (typical stand-mount is around 1 to 33 but can be less than 1 to 200).  Then think about how much a large cabinet could weigh (if properly braced) and what the cost/hazards of shipping such a cabinet would be.  And just consider for a moment how much sound comes off an open baffle that has almost no support/bracing as it moves/flexes against the driver movement.

I believe the cabinet should add no sound of it's own, past what the essential design intends.  Why would I want everything to have the same colored sound (or wear colored glasses 24/7)?

Well, yeah, but afterall the brochure states that the cabinet was designed with the intent of "mimicking the look of a gravity defying object", which is certainly high-up on my speaker selection criteria.

When I first saw the photo, I assumed that the violin was placed there for promotional photo. Not so, it appears to be a working part of the design.

I don't have the credentials of the designers but the concept seems preposterous to me. A mash-up of science and hoopla, but then that defines a lot of marketing I suppose.

And Russell, assuming I get their drift,  it seems like attaching an ensemble of instruments to the top would make it that much better...no?
