705 or 703 fiberglasspanels for my room????
« on: 16 Sep 2004, 08:10 pm »
hi
i am planning on building  acoustic panels.two behind the speakers ,one on the front wall , two on the sidewalls for first reflection, two in the back corners as bass traps ,one on the back wall.
the bass traps i know should preferably be built from 705.
what about the other panels. the 705 absorbs better in the lower freq.the 703 better in the mids.do i need the 703 for good mid high freq. absorbtion or could it be that it would make the room too dead?
perhaps only using it for the first reflection?any input about how to setup with what sort of panel would be appreciated.
also ,anybody who knows of a good curtain material to use for absorbtion,or other ideas how to treat window areas?
panels are planned to be about 2' by 4'  and 4' thick.room is about 12 by 15 and 8 high
thanks a lot

Use 705-FRK (foil-faced) for bass traps, and plain 703 for reflections. Plain 705's absorption coefficients are nearly the same as 703 down to 125hz, if you check. Where 705 wins out is when it is foil-faced. Since you don't want foil for reflections, as it will reflect mids and highs, go with 703, it's much cheaper.

Hope that helps.
