DIY 6H30 linestage
« on: 31 Dec 2014, 02:24 pm »
Here is my latest scratch built project. A linestage based on the 6H30 tube. It is a fairly simple circuit built with premium parts and some special treatments like the CNC tube mount plates, CNC chassis lettering and some old school cable hand lacing. The 2A3 SET amp I built about 12 years ago. It was the very first piece of tube gear I ever built.

Wish some professional builders would be as neat as you with their designs.

Wow!  It looks great, better than a lot of manufactured gear.   I am sure it sounds great.

Love your cable dressing, and those cnc plates for the tubes look spiffy

Fine craftsmanship.  What's your next project?

Truth be told I am working on a turntable at the moment. I just got the plinth CNC machined from some 1" thick paper stone. Now to pick out the wood for the base. I don't think I'm happy unless I've got a project in the works. Now granted in the works is a loose term, as some of my projects can take years.

VERY NICE BUILD.

One of the nicest looking diy projects I've seen.

Did you have the chassis custom made?  I've never seen one like it, and I try to keep up with whats available for diy stuff.

Looks like you are using PRP resistors, and the new Jupiter caps for coupling.
How do you like the Jupiters?

The chassis is from China. I got it off Ebay. I then CNC machined additional cutouts, mounts and lettering to make what you see here. The resistors and caps came from Sonic Craft. I can't say enough good things about them. Their customer service is the best. So far with what listening I've done, these are some of the best coupling caps I have heard.

Wow, that is really nice work.

Such a nice layout and I like the way you did the grounding, I haven't seen that before.

Ebay?
Do you have a link for the seller?
I've looked at a bunch of chassis on ebay and I haven't seen that one before.

Search aluminum chassis. You can get it with the cutouts and knobs or without.

Gee - This one I made seems to be lacking in certain areas compared to the one by Wardsweb.  I fondly call it "Kitty Killer".

Very nice.  My only critique is an aesthetic one.  I think side by side tubes would look better than front and back tubes.  Just my .02.  Everything else is killer!

I had tried a side by side layout in the beginning. I actually went through four iterations before ending up with what you see. It is has more to do with the power supply section layout than wanting the tubes front to back.

This reminds of some prototyping builds I've done in the past. They were affectionately called "dead bug" designs because the IC's and regulators look like dead bugs when upside down.
