just my opinion for what it's worth.
Cold looking headphones.
Too much shiny metal.
If they sound good, then they might pleased headphones fans.

Hi charmerci,
...for the same reason that a DVD player or a HT Receiver
as to look good/cool even if hidden inside a entertainment cabinet.

But I did not give up and I've tried Yahoo and they came up with this:

Actually, I'm pretty sure it was adopted because some people have been pronouncing it more like kewl than cool.

Hi all,
for me the sound is 50% and the look is another 50%.
In the past years I've tried several brands and models
and only the over the ears headphones makes me happy
and are comfortable to wear for long periods of listening.
The criteria that make me reject any headphones are:
(In random order)
Price (Too high), look (Old or odd looking),
in and over the ears, weight (Too heavy)
and of course comfort,
(which might also be related to the weight.)
Durability, sturdiness, reliability:
That's not easy to evaluate,
I guess it's more or less with time that you can know if they are reliable
and durable.
Many hi-end headphones really look nice by their modern design,
but that's only one of the criteria.
Even if my HD650 are dark
and veiled I am still happy with my purchase.

Hey Guy, it was -12 C (10 degrees F) here overnight. That 96 almost sounds good.

But those Hifimans are still ass-ugly. And it looks like the grilles were designed to keep fingers out but I can envision lots of small objects that could accidentally make contact with the internals.

I'm a form-follows-function kind of guy. I don't mind a nice looking set of headphones (which these are not, IMO) but am not into styling exercises for their own sake. And I hope the headband is not as flimsy as it looks.

There appears to be a couple of screens involved. The larger, more wide spread exterior one, and then some mesh inside that.

I would trust it to keep items out of where they do not belong.

For me, they don't resonate visually.

I trust that they will sound good given their provenance!

I would think this is a photo of the prototype.

Poor fit... certainly not up to the fit/finish of their other headphones.

That's one big reason why I haven't purchased anything from HifiMan. The poor build quality is a common theme among their line, especially with the rollout of the HE-400 when it first came out. Have just seen too many horror stories in the forums from their customers. To their credit, they seem to handle returns well, but not a headache I want to deal with if I can avoid it.

Can't say your wrong but the HE 500's I had were decent as for fit/finish. Nothing outstanding though...
