While enjoying a few favourite CDs this morning and after putting the BR2 down, I realized that the remote batteries have never been inspected or changed. Opening up the BR2 found no issues with respect to leaking batteries but they were changed out anyway. Remember if you change the BR2 batteries, you must re-enter some codes for your devices.
Some leaky batteries....

I had a Denon DCD-1520 that came factory w/Hitachi batteries which last two years, after it I changed the batteries to this same brand at the photo and after 9 months the batteries leaked, oxidizing the remote inside. -((
