CD Player?
« on: 26 Dec 2014, 08:03 pm »
I am thinking of adding a cd player to my home entertainment system and friends tell me I can use either an older SONY Playstation or an X-Box.  For people who have used either, what are your thoughts?
Thanks in advance!

Yea, any "old" game console can be used as a CD player. But when folks talk about using PS1 consoles as CD players, they're specifically looking for units with "1001" in the model number. They had a bit more audio magic in them that the rest. They're fairly old and sought after by audiophiles, so are more expensive than a console that old "should be".

Hope that helps.

TASCAM CD200 CDP has the great TEAC transport and is a high dollar value item IMHO.
I got mine from B+H for a bit over $200 and am pleased with it . The built in DAC is pretty good but I feed the CDEP to a Bifrost Uber DAC

Great advice from KR500! There is even a Teac that has a digital out for hookup to a better quality external DAC. Same place... TECDP650 Mfr # CD-P650.

Good luck. BTW I am using a Bifrost Uber and IMHO combined with one of these transports above... your CD's will sound very good indeed.

the TASCAM uses the same highly rated transport as its upscale sibling $900 TEAC CDP
The rack ears on the TASCAM easily come off with 4 screws
