I am looking for a good SET amp, either in mono or integrated.  I keep coming across Almarro and Yamamoto and their is no close dealers in my area, does/has anyone listen to them and have opinion. I have high efficiency speaker 99bB so 8-20 watts is plenty   would like to stay in 300b's or EL 34's

Yamamoto SETs have an excellent reputation. 6moons has nice reviews of some of their models (opinions are mixed on the style of writing at 6moons, but their reviews are pretty comprehensive and give a great idea of flavor). I haven't heard the Yamamoto SET, but I do love my Yamamoto DAC (no tubes, but fabulous sound).

Sea dogs, I have a Canary 300b push/pull, a 1626 darling, a Don Allen 807 set, an OTL AtmosPhere s30, and three other set amps you could hear in St. Louis. This would give you the best of all worlds. What is your budget?

What a great collection of amps. Loved that Atmasphere S30 when I had speakers well-suited to it.

I own two Yamamoto, the A08 and A09 using 45 and 300B tubes. I also own a BAT that uses the 6C33 tubes in SET. Pm me to discuss some differences in these amps.

  Thanks for the response guys,  I live in Upstate NY,  from ILL and my father lives in Springfield, maybe this summer i could come over when we go to the Cardinals games.  I had vandersteens Wood quatros with Quicksilver V4's and Ayre pre-amp,  sold all and starting the move into S.E.T     I kept my Clearaudio Preformance dc turntable and Whest phono.      I was also looking into the canary 300  but its a push/pull  thinking i would like to be as simple as possible(thoughts will listen) also liked the Coincident franks,  Speakers, i am getting the Zu superfly's,     budget is $4,000-$5,000 on the amps/integrated,  any thought would be great.  NEWBIE in the SET world  thanks

You've posted in the St. Louis "Circle" of the forum, so I'm going to move this thread over to the New York "Circle".
Granted, they're not as cool as we are, but there's certainly more of them than there are of us.

You might also want to check out posts by Gopher (Fred). He lives on Long Island but has posted a lot about the amps he has tried with his Soul Superflys. Atmasphere, Decware, some 845 SETs and others. He posted a lot on his experiences here and on Audiogon.

@seadogs, I live near Princeton, NJ area and have Zu Druid V being driven by a Triode Lab 2a3 and Dodd Preamp.  In the process of acquiring a 4P1L based DHT preamp, should have that in mid January time frame.  You are more than welcome to visit and have a listen.


Another amp to consider is Concident EL34 SET which I believe is < 1500 or so.   I have not heard the EL34 amp.


Do you have your Soul Superfly already?  If you are within 1hr to 1 1/2hr drive of me I can bring my amp and preamp along so you can listen to it with your Superfly.

I think Zu usually builds speakers as they receive orders and that might be the reason for the wait time.  Did you ask Sean/Gerrit to see if they have any b-stock (usually slight imperfection in the finish).  If they have them you might want to ask for pictures to see if you can live with the imperfection.  My Omen Def Mk.1b which are used for HT in basement are b-stock and the reason for the b-stock status was some rub marks on the finish.

I will call and see if they have "B" stock-thanks for the advise, and that is a beautiful color on those speakers.   I saw those speakers on audiogon talked with them, everything will cost $2,000.00 + $550.00 for the upgrades from Zu, but my last speakers were wood grained and was hoping to get a colored speakers this time.     Also saw some killer deals on Triode Corp Mono's and integrated amps,   Have never heard of Triode Corp   (Japans) build quality and have pretty good reviews.  Once again thanks to everyone on the help and advise.

Zu Soul in NY - Listed on usaudiomart.com and the same seller is also selling a Yaqin MS300b (300b SET) integrated.  Not sure if the equipment is still available or since it was posted back in September.  The other option is to get Dirty Weekend Omen with Mk.1B upgrade already installed directly from Zu. 


How large is your room?  The reason I ask is that I had Soul Superfly (traded them in for Druid V) and they worked great in small 14 (w) x 15 (L) x 9 (h) room but when I moved them to basement (was thinking about consolidating 2 systems into one) where the room is 13 (w) x 30 (L) x 7 (h) they sounded flat.  The Druid sound whole lot better in the basement but I plan to use them in the small room, to avoid contention with kids wanting to dance/listen to music/watch movie in the basement.
