Super V room size
« on: 4 Dec 2014, 07:32 pm »
Hi..haven't been here in a while.  I bought about the last Super V kit available at the end of its rein...then life happened.  Fast forward and life continues to happen with a potential move to North Carolina.  At this point I may, or may not, have the only unassembled Super V kit around.

My question is on the minimum room size a pair of Super V's will sing in.  I'm house hunting and would like to keep the SV's in mind as I do so.  When I say "minimum size room" I don't intend on stuffing them into the smallest space possible..I just want to know where the line is(approximately) where a room is to small.  In following..what would be an optimum size room?   I'd prefer to have them in a great room with a vaulted ceiling.  I'll be avoiding square rooms, but would appreciate any thoughts after that.

Check this link.  It goes deep but very informative.

As long as you can keep them out of corners you should be fine.  OB speakers are incredibly forgiving of less than ideal rooms.

And so long as you can place them out into the room then they work well even in small to medium sized rooms.

Big, long, deep rooms really let them shine though.

I have been running the V1s in a 10.5'x12.5' room for four years or so, the worked great.  OB bass is the secret in my opinion.  Like Danny said, you have to be able to get them away from the walls.  Here is my room:

Thanks for the thoughts guys..much appreciated.  Given all the other constraints on buying a home..this really helps.   ebag..that is a small room & thank you! for the diagram!  I never would have guessed they could work in that space..good to know.   I do have the center diffuser panels that Danny has used previously in some show & I have 6 foot 'superchunk' bass traps(6# rockwool) that I built years ago.  I also have the room-ceiling corner triangles if I need them.

I was under the understanding(memory is fading a bit) the V's needed a lot of room to breath..guess not as long as they are set up right.

thx!

The Super V's and the V2's are both very good speakers if you have to sit close to them - the coaxial mids/highs lets them integrate and sound coherent much closer than a speaker with a physically separated midrange and tweeter.

That is exactly true.

Cool!  Potential Super V placement is a factor in the houses I review.  Knowing the perfect room isn't required is a big plus..after all..'perfect' is hard to fall into sometimes.
