I absolutely agree with this quote in the review:

Quote
"What I want to stress about the RM 30’s high frequency reproduction is that it’s the least colored, most detailed, and most natural high frequency reproduction I’ve yet encountered in ANY speaker."

It was the clarity and coherent nature of the RM 40's that made me want to own them and has kept me enjoying them!!

Congrats for your second great review this month Brian.

I've always been leary of published reviews because they're always positive but my experience with these is exactly the same as Mr. Alles.  I'm glad he was able to spend "a couple of weeks" tweaking them because it took me well over a month to get them to reach their potential. The described bass  and treble issues are the same as my experience and really prove to me that this reviewer spent a lot of time with these speakers.  I agree with his statement that "I don’t believe it is likely to be embarrassed by any speaker at any price."  The more I  listen to music/movies with my RM30's, the more I like them.  I ask myself (and anyone who listens to my system), is it possible for technology to reproduce sound any better than this?

Oh, and congratulations Brian.  Nice review.  These kind of things are important whether good or bad.

When you look back on your life you can feel a real sense of accomplishment with these fabulous speakers that you design.  They really are the best.  And surely you know that money does not buy happiness.  The legacy you leave will have nothing to do with money whether you have lots or little.

By the way, I wasn't sure about the spelling of whether so I looked it up. According to Merriam-Webster, wether means "a male sheep castrated before sexual maturity."  I don't know why I mention that but I found it interesting.

The review is a wonderful capstone for 27 years of work.  I am of course thrilled about it.

In less than a month, the RM30 will square off against some of the world's best speakers at the Rocky Mountain Audio Fest.  We'll use a Trinaural configuration and have a Larger Subwoofer on hand for first-octave boost.
We will show Bud Bailey's Rosewood finish (on a par with mls) and the Show samples will feature the Auricaps and 6.5" Megawoofers, just like the review pair.

Come hear the RM30 in Denver Oct 8-10 if you can; if not, most VMPS dealers around the country stock them.  At the Show I will be the one in the 10 gallon hat and "New Sheriff" badge!!

Great review!  Pretty much confirms what I've heard so many times before from virtually everyone who's heard them.  Sounds like Brian really outdid himself with the RM30s.

Are the crossover points as stated in the review, and is there putty on the rear passive?  I was under the impression that the x-over point was now lower, and that the putty was only on the front passive.

I ordered some 626R's about a week ago because I'm waiting for the RM30's to be available in African Ebony. Any chance this will happen within the next year?

Ebony is an mls finish.  We'll probably order some RM 30 from Mark by the end of the year.

The crossover in the RM30 is at 6.9kHz.  I should have corrected this info when they asked me to fact-check the review.

MLS RM30 cabinets

Will the construction of the MLS cabinets be any different than current production?

And the finish choices will be the same African Ebony, Rosewood and Diamond Finish Black?

Thanks.  I've been waiting a looong time for new speakers, I can wait a few more months...

Will the MLS cabs be available for both the 'M' & 'C' versions of the RM30?

Won't the use of the Trinaural be somewhat at odds with a show environment?  I've never heard it (or the RM30's, unfortunately), but my understanding is that there is a definite adjustment period for a person's ear/brain combination to adapt to the Trinaural configuration.  I wouldn't think that a show would give people that chance, thus preventing either the processor itself or the attached speakers to show their maximum potential.

Just wondering...

WE did the Trinaural at CES with great success.  Most people weren't aware that three speakers and a sub were playing, the soundstage was so natural.  I don't anticipate any problems at RMAF.

I recently added a Trinaural processor to my stereo setup. I was expecting a long adjustment period but it sounded great as soon as I hooked it up! My father also loved the sound at first listen.

Good luck at the fest! too bad I live so far away :(
