I came across this on AA today and was wondering if anyone else had a similar experience.  Hopefully, poor Lindy can get his stuff back along with his money. :o

I do remember reading from time to time about at least one other who couldn't get his gear back from Stan. Maybe it was Lindy but using a different name on a different board. I don't frequent AA.
I'd be surprised if Stan didn't return it immediately once he knows how frustrated Lindy is. Aren't there people on these boards who know Stan personally? Can one of them intervene?

This is surprising because I often read so many positive posts about Stan. It's almost like a cult following.

It makes me appreciate guys like Dan Wright, Danny of GR Research, Dave Ellis, and other very responsive and respectable mfgr/dealers belonging to this forum.

Thanks for the post, Jack.

I would avoid jumping to conclusions.  I once hired a designer to design a remodel for my vacation home.  He was flippant to my wife and took forever to get anything started.  The flippancy was inexcusable, but it turned-out that he had heart surgery during this period and didn't tell any of us.  We fired him and found out about his illness much later.  It was still a good idea to fire him, but it is never good to make assumptions.  Stan may have a lot going on in his life right now, or even medical problems.....

Lyndon contacted me in December and January after I posted something on HD about how long it was taking to get my SACD player back from Stan. His comments at that time were similar to what he posted on AA.

As for my player... I shipped it to Stan on September 18, 2002 along with a check for $330 for mods and shipping. In addition I purchased a bunch of Black Gates at Stan's suggestion and had them shipped to him. Also a pair of Jensen caps for the power supply. FedEx showed the package arrived on the 24th and the check cleared the bank on Oct. 1. His estimate was 4-5 weeks. Given his reputation for slowness, I doubled it.

Sadly I have been unable to reach him by phone since that time. This is not for lack of trying but I never receive an answer. I have been in communication with another person who has an Adcom amp with Stan who has been able to talk with him and who was kind enough to ask about my player. It appears at this time that SACD 1000 mods are on the back burner because Stan is in Adcom mode. :(

On December 18th I sent a letter to Stan requesting that if he could not complete the mods to my player within two weeks that he return it along with my money and parts. I received no response of any kind. Of course  since I didn't sent it via registered mail I can't guarantee that he received it.

On February 3rd, 2003 I sent another letter to Stan, this time via certified mail with a return receipt. The contents requested the immediate return of my equipment, parts and funds. I stated that if I did not receive my goods within 14 days of his recipt of the letter that I would contact the Oregon Consumer Protection Agency and pursue any avenue available to me.

The letter was signed for on February 11. As of today I have not received anything and have had no communication of any kind. If I don't have my goods by next Tuesday I will contact the Oregon CPA and see what can be done.

I was going to wait until the drama had played out before posting anything but what the hell.

Mike - fucking angry at the moment.

I'll jump to conclusions!   :x

audioengr, in your case, did you prepay for the work?

If Stan is unable to do the work for ANY reason, he should not be taking people's money and equipments.  The decent thing for him to do is to return them.  Also, there is no excuse for not responding to customer inquiries.

Guys, go get him.

Wow! If that doesn't sound like a description of how Melos Audio Restoration does business I don't know what does. Stan Warren and Will Guering must have attended the same school of ethics.
