Harry Pearson, HP at TAS, passed away earlier this week. He was the guy who founded The Absolute Sound and launched high end audio.
We who seek better sound, better recordings and better equipment, are in your debt Harry Pearson.
Rest in peace.

Michael Fremer wrote a nice tribute to Harry and his impact on our great hobby,
http://www.analogplanet.com/content/audio-legend-harry-pearson-passes-away
as did Jonathon Valin,http://www.psaudio.com/pauls-posts/in-memory/ and Paul McGowan,
http://www.psaudio.com/pauls-posts/in-memory/
Many of the comments are from people who knew and met harry several times.
I met Harry for the first time at RMAF in 2009 when he came into Marjorie's office. He was witty and took notice of my vinyl lady moniker on my name badge. Harry gave a talk on the past, present and future of high end audio. The room was SRO.
RIP Harry.

If you know your history Harry Pearson had a big impact on audio. Also Gordon Holt had a big impact. Many decades ago the audio magazines before the internet relied on measurements and very limited subjective reporting. Gordon Holt and HP the two legends of subjective reviews changed things. We will never forget these two giants of the audio world.

Because of the idea created by HP:
Live music is the absolute sound and is a reference to hi-fi audio.
I have spent decades thinking and doing equip purchases base on this silly idea.

TAS was the best 'zine for me because HP descriptions of what he heard dovetailed best with what I heard even though I didn't cotton to his writing style. Neither did it stop me from buying more then a hundred issue of TAS & every Sounds Like. Fremer's obit is spot on.
