Lenco L75s. Please advise. Thank you.
« on: 5 Nov 2014, 03:34 pm »
I have a giant LP collection that I have not played in 20+ years. A few years ago, imagining that I would play vinyl, I acquired a Lenco L75s. Supposedly, it was found “new in box,” and by the look that may be accurate. It’s a fully functional Lenco with a Rega RB250 arm and a HEAVY custom built “Jean Nantais”-style plinth with multiple layers of plywood, a beautiful bamboo surround with a dark wood inlay. Even my girlfriend loves the look of it. So? Note: I did not intend to indicate it was built by Nantais, it just reminds me of of his work.

If I’m honest with myself, then I’m not going to start playing vinyl anytime soon. And, I’d still have to “invest” in a cartridge and phono stage. So, I’m debating selling or trading it.
It’s not an academic question as someone expressed an interest in it. PLEASE provide some feedback. Thank you.

  • Just how great are these Lenco turntables? And, how rare in top condition?
  • Is this something so good and so “irreplaceable” that I’d regret it’s absence?
  • And, if I do trade/sell it, what is the approximate fair value?
I glanced and saw a wide range of values, but not many confirmed sales.

PLEASE…any input is welcome. I have the chance to trade for another rare piece of gear that I can utilize, but …? Yes, we should all be blessed with such dilemmas  :D  given the real trials of life . But, then again, we’re here and we’re soul seeking  :peek: music loving audiophiles thirsting to get closer to the essence of the music.   :banana piano:

THANK YOU.

Hi,
I don't know your situation, but you have a giant record collection saved for over 20 years, why?   I'm guessing that you don't really have the time and/or inclination to start dealing with actually playing them again.  This is the perfect opportunity.  Your custom L75 is worth way more in potential than its used dollar value and from your description it sounds gorgeous, even your GF loves the way it looks.  Did you see this?
http://www.high-endaudio.com/RC-Lenco.html

If you got the table operational and performing as it should, a $6K arm on there wouldn't be inappropriate.  Right now you could get a decent (listenable) phono stage for less than $300 and a relatively inexpensive cartridge and be listening to a rig that would beat most $3K new tables.  That figure is probably low.  If you want to sell, it's hard to put a value on it.   Is it NOS or just looks it?  Is it operational and functioning properly, or are you assuming that?

Did you come across Lenco Heaven forum, an entire forum devoted to these tables?  I believe the L75 is top dog.   If you want to sell, maybe I can relieve you of the hassle of listing it etc.  On the other hand this might be the opportunity you've been waiting for.

What indicates that this is a Jean Nantais?  Which model Jean Nantais is this?  see website.  pictures of your turntable would be nice.

sonicxtc,

I received your PM regarding your Lenco turntable which is not Jean Nantais.  Please check with Lenco Heaven.  http://www.lencoheaven.net/

I think it is fun playing records.  The whole process does cost more money compared to CD.  But if you decide to go vinyl route than let's spend some money.  I heard you can't go wrong with a Lenco L75.  You got a very very good one.  The Lenco needs a better tonearm.  You could spend $2,000 on a tonearm.  The Lenco Heaven forum is your best bet to advise you.  Good luck.

Been busy with other  matters, but mulling this over.
