I decided to go ahead and pull the trigger on the 51".  My 42"Panny was getting a bit old, and I want to stay with plasma for another generation.  Anyone else get one of these?

I really want one of these, probably one of the last good plasmas to hit the market.  I wish I could get my hands on a Panasonic VT60 for decent price, it would still probably outperform the Samsung in shadow detail.  I heard in a press event Samsung called the 8500 the best TV they had ever made, better than even their current lineup of LEDs.

My brother bought a 51" F8500 about a year ago.  I am pretty sure he paid over $2k for it!

I got BB to price match another online vendor who happened to have a B&M store in Ohio and ended up with a Panny ZT60 plasma for $2,200 which I am still enjoying immensely for over a year now.

Regards,

Randy

I have a VT30 55 Panny  and it is amazing.  It is on the main floor of our house.

I have an ST60 Panny in the basement, and frankly because of the darkness of the environment, the quality of the picture is just as good as the VT30 upstairs with more natural light around.

A good friend has a mid level Samsung plasma, and in his basement it looks very good too.

I think the room you put one in, has a big influence on the quality of the outcome - kind of like speakers that way!

I received the earlier listed (64H5000) Samsung Plasma today...happy I pulled the trigger. Great so far. Thanks for the heads-up, Dan.  Never thought I'd see the day a 50"(what it's replacing) seemed small!

I suspect there will be more deals on these as we get closer to Black Friday and end of year. Sad to see the end of 'em, still seems like a killer picture, especially for the money. LCDs just haven't floated my boat, so maybe by the time this looks like it needs replacing, they'll have gotten better.

Funny when I think about buying a 36" Sony when they were the shizzle. Biggest you could get at the time, I think. What a beast that was, heavy and clumsy... all two men could manage, don't miss that!

Still some smokin' deals there, even at the "bottom end" to upgrade the 2nd room system;  60" LG for $699

Good friend of mine has a 60 LG plasma, and in his basement with controlled lighting, it is quite good using his PS3 as the Blu ray.

My Samsung PN51F8500 51-Inch arrived yesterday.  A week or so ago I also picked up an Oppo BDP95 from a member here at AC....  Wow, what a step up from my older 42" Panny, Oppo DVD 981, and a Sony BDP.  Stunning increase in detail and richness.  Even 2D has a 3D feel to it.  My old Panny was supposedly a good one 5 years ago, but this Samsung just blows it away.

Thanks Dan, for the heads up.

Quiet! I have a 58" Panny plasma that's about 4 years old... I don't want to replace it with a Samsung but this is tempting!

I have the 65" and it fantastic! This is more or less the regular price it seems now, but much discounted than it was a couple weeks ago. Plus you get the keyboard and Costco return policy/extended warranty of an extra year.
