I'll piggy-back on the thread and introduce myself. I have been lurking for a few years but never have posted. I've been a frequent poster on CA and recently on head-fi. I am mostly headphone based now with and LCD-3F, Red Wine Audio Cassabria and ifi micro iDSD. My main stereo is a chain of NAD M51->Odyssey Kismet mono-> Gallo Ref 3.5. I recently migrated to headphone when I moved and lost my dedicated audio room. The acoustics in our new place just don't do the system justice. I like the site and am always looking for a new community.
Hello all! I've been following the site, and actually a member, for two years now. I figured it was time to introduce myself, so this is my first post. When I joined the group, I was just getting back into hi-fi after a 25 year hiatus. Family and Home Theater took priority. I decided to break out my old Carver gear and my ADS L710's, and before I knew it, I was hooked on sound again. Technology certainly has changed, as did my tastes, so the merry-go-round started up In that time, I tried a few different set ups and a couple different rooms, and even made a move back to Florida! I've gathered up some decent gear, sold off some decent gear, moved from a big listening space to a small, dedicated audio room. I've garnered lots of great info from the members that helped me tremendously with decisions on gear, but mostly on acoustical treatments in my small space. Also, a big kudos to Danny for GR Research in helping me upgrade my Tyler Acoustics D2's, turning them into some very fine sounding floor standers. Unfortunately, they over power my small space, so I've moved them into HT duty and am now using some custom built monitors from Ty. Amazing monitors to say the least. My current set up is in a small bedroom, total dimensions are 13 x 11 x 8. Thanks to my collection of acoustical treatments from GIK ( I lived in Atlanta for a while, 30 minutes from Glens warehouse ) 2 Monster Bass Traps, 2 244 bass traps, 4 Tri Traps, and some DIY 2 x 2 panels, and the room has blossomed. My current gear consists of an Avid Volvere 1st Generation turntable, SME 309 arm with an Ortofon Cadenza Bronze cartridge, Avid Pulsus phono stage, Cheap Sony CD plaer, Rogue Audio Athena pre, Parasound A21 amp and Tyler Acoustics custom 2 way monitors. I had been driving the system with Rogue Audio M150 monoblocks, but sadly the big tube amps produced way to much heat for my small space here in Florida. The Parasound A21 does a wonderful job with amazing bass control and authority, though not quite as sweet in the midrange as the Rogues. But I can actually sit in my listening chair without breaking a major sweat! Although I have about 300 cd's, I listen to 95% vinyl, as my collection fills about 8 Peaches record crates ! Love that analog sound. Here a couple photos of my little slice of heaven. It has proven to be a great little listening space. I apologize in advance for the low quality pics. The "panoramic" shot from my cell isn't the greatest...
Tough, but smart move to headphones (if the listening space just isn't up to par, or available). How do you like the ifi micro iDSD (I'm in the market for a new DAC and have no idea what direction to go in)?
