Lately I've been listening to In Good We Trust by Harry Manx w/Kevin Breitt. What a terrific recording. If I've understood his story correctly, Manx is sort of a Harry Partch character who has modified guitars to produce a new instrument with a sound between a sitar and a slide/steel guitar. The result is a sound like holy rolling dust bowl blues composed by a slow-handed, whiskey and cigarettes voiced raga bluesman. In his playing I hear early Ry Cooder, David Lindley, George Harrison on sitar and a young John Prine but, like all true artists, he's synthesizes and makes the sound his own. Breitt complements his playing wonderfully and this is beautifully recorded as well and would seduce the ears of the most discerning audiophile. (Anyone auditioning speakers would be served well by adding this to their list of audition cds; it's now in mine). I missed this album when it was released in 2007 but I'm making up for it now. I give it 5 out of 5 stars. Best I've heard for some time.
Cheers,
KP
