Pair of bridged 4bsst 2 vs. pair 7bsst2
« on: 1 Oct 2014, 12:27 am »
I have a 4bsst2 and wondered if it is better sonically to add a second one and run them in bridged mode  compared to getting a pair of 7bsst2's?

Even though bridged 4 bsst2's are rated at 900 watts a channel I don't imagine they are in the same league as the 28s, sound wise.

Comments?.....

Hi GE

Generally I recommend two 7B's over bridged 4B's as the more difficult the load the better the 7B will perform over a bridged 4B

Personally if the drive power is sufficient I'd add another 4B and drive the channels seperately via crossover, IMO the improvement would be larger at a smaller cost than simply switching to the 7B's .

I upgraded my system (BP26 -> 14B -> PMC MB2i) by adding another 14B for the very demanding LF unit and the result is most satisfying.

Just my 2 cents.

James,

Thank you for your reply, watts are not just watts in the real world.  My VMPS speakers are power hungry, but at least don't have the near impossible to drive impedance load range of my venerable original Infinity Kappas 8's.

Still hope to be able to swing a pair of 28's one day.  Prosperity is just around the corner!
