« on: 4 Sep 2004, 08:21 pm »
I have not use A TT in 20 years, I will like to try the analog sound, my local dealer have the Nottingham Space with space arm and Sumiko Blackbird cartridge(MC). It is a good tt for the price or better to look to other brand , I will prefer local dealer  because they can set the equipment for me, I DID BEFORE BUT 20 YEARS AGO. Any recomendation?

Juan,
the Spacedeck has been one of the well-regarded tables for several years.
I  bought my Spacedeck locally from Nott's former importer and have had no regrets; I'm sure there are other contenders in its price range, but the fact that you can buy locally seems like a big plus in its favor.  You may find it weird to have to spin the platter manually at first, but you get used to that pretty quickly. Somewhere down the line you could even add an extra arm by adding an extra arm pod. Some guys on AA/ Audiogon have upgraded the mat to a Boston with reported good results (Nottingham itself offers a mat upgrade but it's $1000).

Sorry, but the only knowledge I have of the cart is from Michael Fremer's review in Stereophile. It's been awhile, so his comments may be on the Stereophile site by now.

Does your dealer offer a variety of cartridges???

Yes, they have several, but he kind of like the Sumiko for the nottingham, do you have any recomendation? My Dealer is a very nice guy who will let me try different cart.

Juan, I assume your dealer is recommending a Blackbird.  The Blue Point and Blue Point Specials are not good cartridges IMHO.

Other carts to try, Dynavector 20XH and Nottingham's own line of carts.

Hi Juan,

I just picked up a TT package just a few weeks ago.  I haven't spun vinyl in nearly 10 years.  I picked up a package on Audiogon that came with the Spacedeck, Origin Live Silver tonearm and Shelter 901 cartridge.  I was floored with the ease and smoothness of playback of vinyl with this midrange setup.  I can't imagine what a beautiful Teres 340, schroder arm and shelter cartridge could sound like.

I can't wait to hear the teres room at the Rocky Mountain audiofest.   So far, I'm hooked.   I'm already thinking of future upgrades to the table and arm.
