Roots / Rockabilly Music
« on: 5 Sep 2014, 03:29 am »
OK, so are there any Roots / Rockabilly music fans out there?
Since moving from Detroit to Atlanta I miss this music terribly.

I'll kick it off then ...

A stunning beauty who writes music, plays guitar, sings ... I think I'm in L-U-S-T!

How about you?

Edit: To be clear, my intent for this thread was for you all to post which Roots / Rockabilly album/cd/download you were currently listening to (or just played or just about to play).
A more appropriate title might have been, "Which Roots / Rockabilly album are you listening to?"
Thanks for the posts thus far. Keep it up fellas!  :thumb:

bajaed – thanks for posting!

Love the Blasters, along with Dave Alvin’s more current releases as well.

Saw Sleepy several years back. He put on quite a live show. Terrific stuff.

I’ll check out Billy Bacon. Thanks!

Billy Bacon and the Forbidden Pigs were a great bar band in San Diego and SoCal back in the 90's. They were also big in Arizona. They put out a fair amount of albums and cd's for being a mostly regional act. You can sometimes find their stuff on ebay.

Just finished:

Lee is great. I saw him a few times several years ago. Of all of the Stray Cats, he is by far my favorite.

Don't forget about Brian Setzer:

PS: I saw Sleepy LaBeef a couple of times in the late 70's at a sleepy little country bar in Groton, CT of all places.  He puts on a good show.

Paladins, yes! Dave Gonzales is an amazing guitar player. Check out his work with the late, great Chris Gaffney in the Hacienda Brothers.

Speaking of Dave Gonzales and the Hacienda Brothers, grab this if you can find it:

It's rare and I think hard to find but it is an absolutely smokin live set they did in Europe. Rockin roots/country. Download the opening track "Railed" for an amazing performance by Gonzales trading licks with the pedal steel player.

Love the Paladins! Saw them a few times back in late 90's in Detroit with Thomas Yearsley. Ever see them with Thomas? They were amazing live.
