Line Array Differences
« on: 1 Sep 2014, 06:07 pm »
So I'm just kinda curious to the difference in some line array designs.

On the site I've seen straight line arrays
Cbt arrays
Haas shading straight arrays
Open baffle straight arrays (Julietta)

I've got a general idea of the cbt. But what is hanns shading used for? And what would be the design advantages/disadvantages of a OB array? What would generally suit a customers to pick one design principle over another?

The shading gives you more uniform output and increases the vertical coverage. OB (I prefer "dipole" for the Julietta) is an alternative for those that like the dipole radiation pattern. Many dipole advocates also like removing the rear and sides of the cabinet to eliminate any potential coloration ; however, the room now becomes the "box" and that can be problematic.

Don Keele has an excellent website and many technical papers from his exceptional career are linked.  He also has a line array comparison paper which is linked from the home page of his site.  While his comparison criteria are subjective, you can view his results and decide for yourself which performance factors are critical for your usage.
