Does anybody care about this music?
« on: 15 Aug 2014, 08:08 pm »
My son moved out of here a couple of years ago and left lots of stuff he had outgrown. Among his effects were a good number of CDs. I'm wondering if there is any market at all for:

Rob Zombie
Dope
Disturbed
Buffalo Killers
Animal Collective
Angel Hair
My Chemical Romance
Motograter
Marilyn Manson
Crazy Town

There are multiple CDs by some of the above listed artists and lots of other stuff too. He was in his early teens when he acquired these things and he is 24 now. Let me know if you think any of this is marketable. I can't even be bothered to listen to them so I am hoping someone on AC can tell me if they have value.

They obviously have value to those who are still fans, BUT, those fans likely already have all the albums.....so.....I'd say their value is very limited.

Probably true. Probably also true that people who like that stuff don't deal in physical media anyway. I think Dewey played them once to load them into his iPod and left them to gather dust. That's what they've been doing.

Maybe some day he'll want to re-rip those CD's to a lossless format, you know, to hear all the nuances of Marilyn Manson and Disturbed as the artists intended.

Very funny!
I've encouraged him to respect the value of archiving by getting them out of my house. I think he has just outgrown acne music.

I've sold CDs to "SecondSpin.com".
You can type the SKU number into the site, and it'll tell you instantly what they'll pay you for it.
Last time I sold them discs, they paid for "media mail" shipping, and it didn't cost me a dime. I could use the money towards buying music from their site, or cold hard cash.

Or...take it to your local used music place and let them give you an offer.

You can also start an Ebay auction for a "lot" of heavy metal CDs.
A "lot" as in a 'group', as opposed to a 'bunch', if you catch my drift.
Back in the day, I bought CDs from Ebay, and used the search term "lot", as it gave me larger quantities of discs.

Best of luck.  :thumb:

There was no reply to your quote. Must have gotten lost in 'internet-never-never-land'.  :dunno:

Just a thought here…. There are people that sold off music (Vinyl) and wished they never did.
Maybe you could store the CD’s in a plastic tub for a future date for your son to listen to.

My guess is you won’t get much $$ for them anyway unless you happen to have something
that’s is sought after..

  • I reject your music, and substitute my own.

I have stuff (VHS tapes, cassette tapes, Playmobil , Lego, Transformers,  etc) in the closet of my old room. I doesn't mean I don't want them anymore. I just don't need them "right now".

I have a few video tapes, a few audio tapes, and some toys to keep me happy until I need the rest of them.

Hi all.
I have lots of audio cassettes, VHS and Hi8 tapes, CD, vinyl and I'm keeping all of them.
When my Nakamichi BX100 is repaired, I will transfer all my vinyl to audio cassettes.
I have VHS cassettes that I have recorded 30 years ago and they still play good,
cannot say the same with floppy disks and RW CD.
