Back from Pass Labs in December for gain reduction and full checkup. Gain reduction was needed with my 91dB speakers because at low volume settings (aka 1 to 3), it was too loud to listen during the night (according to my wife). So gain reduction of 3dB on the low gain setting was done to get a wider range of volume adjustment. High gain setting is not changed with this reduction. 14dB gain is still achieved at high gain if you need it.
Pass also beefed up the full size power supply to twice the rating of original spec, and you can hear this in the improved bass and dynamics, more specific imaging and wider, deeper soundstaging.
Included also is a Synergistic Research SR20 fuse, which is one of the best out there, and works very well with this and other Pass units.
I am looking to simplify for a move and likely will regret selling this. In direct comparison to XP-10, the X1 had much fuller bass, pleasing warmth, and more enveloping soundstage than the XP-10. I encourage you to contact Pass Labs to inquire about the history of these units. Ser. Nos. D-3307 and 3308. Close to cosmetically perfect, Kent says it is the cleanest he's seen in years.
