GE Vintage Stereo System with Garrard Turntable
« on: 6 Aug 2014, 10:46 pm »
Hi everyone, I walked into a Salvation Army store today in Tulsa Oklahoma just to look around and saw this vintage (dinosaur) General Electric all in one tabletop/wall stereo unit with a Garrard automatic turntable being bought just as I got there. The person that bought it was around 20 years younger the unit itself.

The thing that stuck me as unusual was the fine condition it was in for it’s age, it almost looked brand new. The shop keeper said everything on the unit worked…  Anyway, I thought I would snap a couple of pictures while the very happy new owner was paying for it…….. The price? $200 clams... Enjoy.

Hi Brooklyn.
Congratulation, nice acquisition you got there and only 200 USD, wow !
It reminds me when I was younger, much younger, like when I was 20 years old or 46 years ago.
The sound might not be fantastic I am sure, but the looks compensate for that.

Thanks Guy 13 but it wasn't me who purchased it, someone at the store bought it as I saw it for the first time.
It would have been a nice conversation piece for sure. I just wanted to share the interesting stereo system from
days gone by that I saw at the Salvation Army Store.

Hi brooklyn.
Stupid me, I've done it again.
It's not the first time and it won't be the last time either.
I did not read carefully your post.
Sorry, I apologize and for that, I will dip myself in a barrel of honey
and then throw myself into a pit of hungry red ants.
(Plenty of that here: Red ants and honey as well)
Now, that I have read your post again,
it's crystal clear that it's not you that have purchased
that nice audio item.
You are right when you say that it can be a nice conversation piece.
Will you ever forgive me for that BIG mistake?

Guy 13
Yes, I am sorry, but not to the point to throw myself as a meal to red ants.

Garrard made very good turntables in the 70's. I had a DD-75 with a shure stylist. As I remember it sounded good.
Alas!!! Garrard is no more went the way of the DoDo bird.
