None of the Panny receivers have pre-outs. That would defeat the whole concept of keeping everything in the digital domain from player to speaker outputs.

My XR45 has "secondary output".  But I could never get it to work.  I have to use the Subwoofer out to go to my sub.  Seems to work okay though.

The secondary output is a non adjustable output to be used into an integrated amplifier. It is there if you want have music in another room.

It does not work with the digital inputs, only analog.

   oh brother

I suppose you may have a point, if we weren't talking about a cheap under $500.00 receiver that I could use as a processor...and utilize an existing "main" amp to power the fronts...while still providing decent power to the rears and a center.

In theory I could agree...why even consider pre-outs. But in actual application, pre-outs would be quite useful ('least to me)...especially on these low cost amplifiers!  I'm looking for something to process HT, give me some decent amplification to the other channels, have pre-outs...and not to cost alot.  I was hoping that these receivers would be just the thing I'm looking for.  But I guess not  :(

  thanks...
