A friend lent me his 2 Cold Play albums over the weekend, and I've been hooked :o

The clanging guitars on "Politik" was unbelievable
(Yeah, yeah... repetition   )

Why is it that I tend to discover bands I like after:

A) they played a concert within driving distance from me (which I of course missed);

or

B) they have disbanded?

I don't think they disbanded.

Lead Singer Chris Martin, 'boinked', then married Gwyneth Paltrow and just had a girl in the UK.  What that does to Coldplay's plans, I don't know.

You been hiding IN your soapbox in your avator the last few years?

I wanted to like Coldplay, but aside from a couple cool songs (eg Clocks, Polotik) I thought they were pretty bland & unoriginal.  I still have their last one, but I found it disappointing.  As for them disbanding, I'd not heard anything about that.

I do like Chris Martin's vocals, though.

A little bird whispered into my ear that the price of soap will go through the roof sometime soon

ColdPlay had a concert at the Shoreline Amphitheatre, Mountain View, CA, in 2003--less than a 15 minute drive from my apt. When friends told me about it, I thought, "Bah! Hum bug! Oasis wannabes! *snort!*"

Little did I know my mistake

Wow, his wife is Gwyneth Paltrow, eh?
She is sooooo beautiful...

I thought the little bit I heard of the Twelve Girls Band version of Clocks sounded cool.

I like the music but not the recording quality.  In fact, it's unbearable at any volume to me.

The 'Rush of Blood...' album was fairly boring to me but 'Parachutes' is awesome.  I'd like to break the fingers of the studio that screwed it up, though.  Sounds like they had 12-yr-old's making the decisions.

It happens that   Coldplay filmed the concert you missed and issued a DVD/CD package at an attractive price (around $20).

I haven't investigated them any further than what's on the radio.

I just figure if I want to hear Radiohead, I have that already.

Gwyneth is Uber-Hot, and an amazing actress to boot.  But that still hasn't gotten me to listen to them yet.

Enjoy(ed) them.  Wore off quick a long time ago.  Live was uh, 'OK".  Shortest concert I had been to in years, where you're hopeful in the back of your head thinking "OK, they'll come back for the...uh...second set", and you realize that was the end of the show.

Like the music, but whoever mentioned it previously -- the sound quality of the albums is absolutely awful.

Concerts are getting shorter across the board.  Used to be you could count on a couple hours at least, with probably a couple encores if the band is "feeling it."  But nowadays most bands act like they're in an asian sweatshop making Nike's if they're asked to play more than 80-90 minutes.  Of course, the tickets aren't getting any cheaper. :finger:

If you like Coldplay
And you feel like you've been missing out on the latests,
Then you are a candidate for

The Shins:
Oh Inverted World
Chutes Too Narrow

Guaranteed to please.

And if you like the Shins, you'll like
Rogue Wave
Out of the Shadows (I think)

Quick, before they get a real single!

yeah I agree the songs can be so much more if they were recorded nicely.

I dont understand how a studio or record label turn out something so bad?
I mean they are great songs I listen to rush of blood cd about a zillion times but the sound never got to much better as I upgraded my gear.

I love number 7 and number 10 on rush of blood...

I say we hunt the people responsible for the bad sound down!!!! and beat them to death by lashing them with my headphones.....
