Backside Bass

I have had 2 separate people make this statement that you actually get deeper bass from the backside of the woofer than the front(?!).
This cant possibly be correct, can it??

Maybe they are thinking about a ported sub. Front side of the woofer makes the higher bass and the back side (port side) makes the deep bass. Makes logical sense if you just think of it that way. But a lot more things are at play.

Sounds like those people read some incorrect information from the internet.

Yeah, the first person that told me that was a pretty arrogant car audio guy that was telling how you can take any woofer, unscrew it, turn it around so the magnet is outside of the box and you would always have deeper bass! As I said, he was a bit of prat, so I nodded and decided not to point out that he had just increased the box volume by doing what he did!

Technically he is increasing his box volume slightly by doing that. Depending on the application it could be a move in the right direction. But even if the box volume increase was in the right direction for the application it wouldn't play any deeper by more than 1Hz or so.
