Considering that the best bits of MLoR and Division Bell are the instrumental parts, it is encouraging for me to hear that the "new" album is mostly comprised of instrumental pieces as leftovers from the DB sessions.
The chance of live performance is even more interesting to me...  David Gilmour and team deliver live, whether as "Pink Floyd" or a solo act.

I read there are no plans to support this album with a tour.  However, Gilmour is supposed to come out with a solo album next year and hopefully he'll tour on that.

I'll disagree there. You can't really parse the Gilmour and Waters' contributions apart. I mean Gilmour's About Face doesn't exactly conjure Floyd sound/moods, etc. (neither does Pros and Cons). Gilmour's website says The Voice and Guitar of Pink Floyd and that's on the money. The atmospherics were very much driven by Waters as well as the Classic Albums Dark Side dvd shows clearly as he works out the sequencer track for On the Run. Let's not forget all the amazing background vocal effects he's done for many of the albums. And Amused to Death has by far the best 'Floyd' effects and atmospherics of the post breakup period, including the use of Q sound. Yeah he's more concerned about making statements but he knows how to produce an album as an organic whole, which is more than can be said for Mason/Gilmour. Perhaps if Wright had not drifted off until Division Bell things would be different, so I'm excited to hear a mostly instrumental album based around his comeback material.

But neither Gilmour or Waters have much to brag about when it comes to post break-up efforts. It's Lennon v. McCartney

I'll admit I went a bit overboard with my statement.  For the classic era Floyd, the whole was definitely greater than the sum of its parts!

I think About Face definitely gives you an idea of the influence on the Pink Floyd sound on at least a few songs, as do his two other solo albums.  Regardless, no use in arguing opinions!  I'm excited for the new album and can't wait to hear it, which is all that matters!

Best wishes,

Paul

Ever since the release of the news of the coming album, a local DJ at the rock station The Cave, has said there is a strong rumor of a PF tour promoting the album. He said if there is one, he is cashing in his 401K and definitely going.
