SW12B Open Baffle
« on: 29 Jun 2014, 05:17 pm »
Would a pair of the discontinued SW-12B work well in an OB H frame? The impedance would be either 4 or 8 ohms, which should be fine. Would I need to use a plate amp with 6db boost at 30Hz (PE Yung maybe) or one you recommend. These will be used from 100Hz down or 250Hz down, depending on the speaker I plan to use. If not I am open to other inexpensive options.

Thanks,

Steve

Qts is a little on the low side for open baffles on the SW-12B.

But I do have a lot of the 12's left that were used in the V-2: http://gr-research.com/v-2.aspx

$75 each for those woofers.

Hi Danny:

How low will those woofers play in a modest sealed cabinet? What are the cones made out of? Eff. ?

Just wondering if they would make a good car sub?

Thanks.

-3db of 38Hz sealed.

Cones are paper.

Danny - is it this driver? http://www.parts-express.com/pedocs/specs/290-894-eminence-acoustinator-n2012-specifications-45366.pdf

You had these on a "deal of the day" a couple of years ago but when I look at the spec sheet it states "polypropylene" as the cone material. Maybe I have the wrong driver?

Regardless - how bout another good 'ol "deal of the day" on these bad boys?

The thread here was about the SW-12B: http://gr-research.com/sw-12b.aspx

I do have some of those Eminence drivers though. PE lists them for $159 retail and they have them on special for $116 each. I have been selling them for $75 each.  And if you want a bunch of them then I'll deal....

My bad. I thought Ronny Rocket was asking about the Eminence drivers used in the V2 not the SW-12B.

Those are pretty good OB subs though (the V-2 woofers).

Would the Dayton Audio SPA250 with a 24dB crossover at 180 Hz give me enough to cover up to 200Hz? That amp has 6dB of boost at 35Hz. With the V2 woofers in OB be best in a angled V2 style or V1 H frame?I am planning on buying 4 of the woofers from you soon but planning all now.

It would work out okay if it had a 12db per octave slope. With a 24db slope I don't think it will make it and the slope will not match the natural roll off of what's up top.
