Listening to it right now. Haven't formed a full opinion just yet, but I like what I hear so far. Different than 'Bramble Rose', this one is more of a soul/Americana mix. The twang is still there, just a bit subdued. Vocals are as strong as ever.

Dave,
She played a number of cuts off this at her last show here (2 days after she left the studio).  Let me tell ya ... it was anything BUT subdued live!

Bought new CD based on Sunday paper interview saying that it would be less country. It is a decent cd and is more just good tunes than country. Sorry Inscrut, her first cd was too country for me, and I love Martina McBride, Shelby Lynn, etc.

Claud,
You really need to see her live.  She really cranks it up.  Same thing with Kasey Chambers.  They really become more rockers on stage than demure country girls.

I think Tift will really be pumped tonight - in front of her home crowd with a new CD.

I'm going to try and talk some visiting family into going there Saturday night... we'll see if it works out.  I generally don't like modern country like Bonnie Raitt and that sort of thing...  But, I know how seeing someone live can make a big difference.

I was kind of iffy about Elvis Costello until I saw him in concert.  No cd captures the sound I heard that night.  However, with Neil Diamond, just the opposite happened... his concert made me NOT want to listen anymore.

(My cynical side tells me..)  I like Neil's 'Americana' sound from the earlier records but from the music I've heard, 'Tift' (what the hell name is that?) is not Americana... what I've heard is modern country.  That style of music has been being churned out of every Southeastern state for a decade.

So, being the open-minded soul that I am I will try to catch her live.  The people I'm going with would not be willing to pay a lot to see a complete unknown so, cost will factor into whether I/we see or also.

Thanks for the heads up.

Carl,
The cost is $20, but it includes the new CD.

I liked the first one - heard more Lucinda than country twang.  Just thought the sound on the first was a little thin and her voice can be a little delicate.  Would love to see her live.  I picked up the new one this week and bit of new direction - if you have heard Maria McKee's last album ex of Lone Justice (I miss the Maria of you gotta sin to be saved period), with country sound the same way Jayhawks might have been country rock, all kind of overseen by a Dusty Springfield 60's pop feel - like Dusty was in the room somehow.  Quite like it and sound is a little punchier.
