Diffusion on front wall

One of the rooms from The Show that I was most impressed with was the Auralic room. I dont think it was because of the components as much as the room treatments behind the speakers.  I thought soundstage and depth was amazing. I don't see diffusion used this way too often. What's up with it?

Not saying diffusion is a "bad" think on the front wall but generally you use diffusion when you have a electrostatic loudspeaker. For the most part there is low end coming off the back of a normal speaker so if anything, you want to use deep absorption to help control SBIR. With that said though we will use thick absorption with something like our scatter plate to help diffuse any upper energy that may end up on the front wall.

The rooms at Brooks-Berdan (both at the Shows and in their showroom) feature extensive use of diffusion at the front wall and corners behind the speakers and also have a very deep and good soundstage. I'm currently playing around with it in my setup and am happy with the results so far. I have diffusors set atop 242's set sideways (theory being that the absorbers are at the height of the woofers and work to reduce cancellation issues, while the diffusors are just below to just above ear level  :dunno: - but it seems positive so far)

How was the rear wall treated? If is not treated, then  very likely the front wall will get sound bouncing at them, that way i guess the diffusser may get its job.
