Summertime Viewing

Now that Game of Thrones is finishing up, you're probably wondering "What's next?"

Not counting the obvious Orange is the New Black and the latest re-boot of 24, here is my list of faves, some are still weekly and some can be binge watched:

Silicon Valley - I have it on good authority that tech start-ups are just like this 1/2 hour comedy.

Halt and Catch Fire - A new computer tech drama takes place in the early '80's, the jury is still out but the first two episodes are pretty good.

Fargo - Creepy fun sort of follows the plot of the movie of the same name. Everyone except the cops know what is going on, Bob Odenkirk (Breaking Bad) and his Minnesota accent is almost unrecognizable. Billy Bob Thornton's performance is just killer.

Orphan Black - Saying anything about the plot will just spoil it.

Helix - A remote arctic research station is invaded by a virus and a small team from the CDC comes to investigate. Bad thing happen. Think of this as a B grade science fiction series and you will have a good time.

Penny Dreadful - "A penny dreadful (also called penny horrible, penny awful ... ) was a type of British fiction publication in the 19th century that usually featured lurid serial stories appearing in parts over a number of weeks, each part costing one (old) penny. The term, however, soon came to encompass a variety of publications that featured cheap sensational fiction."

The above quote sort of describes the new horror series, fine summertime fare with plenty of babes, boobs and blood. Let's see where this one goes.

Warehouse 13 - A good humored adventure as the team searches for supernatural artifacts. I think this current season 5 is the last so the series in now prime binge watching material.

Longmire - A modern day western with Wyoming sheriff and man of few words Walt Longmire. A leisurely paced mystery with a dry wit.

What are you watching this summer?

Penny Dreadful interestingly has a lot of James Bond Connections: Ava Green, Dalton, Screenwriter John Logan, and Sam Mendes are all Bond alum. There was even a very subtle wink to Live and Let Die I think in a tarot scene in the first episode.

Good show.

Catching up on new seasons of Luther, Sherlock, Elementary, American Horror Story, Orange is the New Black, Orphan Black, Hannibal, and a few others.  Of all of them, Hannibal is clearly the best - OMFG this is a great show.  Even better (dare I say it?  Yes I do), than Silence of the Lambs.

If we're talking TV, the top worldwide viewing - at least for next month - would seem to be the World Cup.....

Fargo's ending this week, so is Orphan black.  2 of the best programs I've ever seen.  Game of Thrones ended last night to be replaced by True Blood next week.  I'm a fan of TB and this final season looks like it's going to be a good one, but it's not at the same level of GOT.  I've already finished binge-watching the very entertaining 2nd season of Orange Is The New Black on Netflix.  Penny Dreadful ends in 2 weeks, I enjoy it but I'm not sure if it'll be renewed.  Looking forward to The Bridge returning and it looks like a few interesting Cable network series are premiering soon.  Interesting to note that there isn't a single show on the major networks that I'm remotely interested in watching.  Been that way for quite some time actually!
