« on: 3 Jun 2014, 11:06 am »
Currently have GE 1940's 211.

Any views on the Elrog 211? Reliability?

Thx.

  • To whom more was given more will be required.
    • Never go to a psychiatrist, adopt a straycat or dog. On the street they live only two years average.

It was very praised at DIY audio:
http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/tubes-valves/236272-elrog-211-845-tubes.html
Price was $1800/pair but it worth more than a 300B.

Reliability?  I sure the Elrogs are most reliable, I have never see a big triode so welldone, maybe Takatsukis in Japan for 300B.

Asking about reliability b/c the few reviews I've seen (either one or two users) had some comments about their bias current going up after a few hundred hours. I imagine tube reliability has a lot to do with how you drive it as well, so I take those comments with a grain of salt...

IMO it have to do with Bias type. Auto bias keep all the time controling/interfering with the tube.
By the hi price I think Dr.Schaffernicht will assist this prob.

I like manual bias, it interferes with the tube just in the moment of calibration.

Currently using either RCA 211 or GE 211. To totally different characters. RCA being rich and warm and GE a tad bright. The NOS RCA if one can find a new pair are about $1500 and up. My favorite is the United 211 but very rare and ultra expensive. The Elrod at $1800 is a stretch. Any return policy ? Any idea of its character ? neutral ? colored ?

I read various sound impressions in that DIY link and in the distributor VinylSavor site.
The reviews tone was unanimous and over enthusiastic.
