This Dodd Audio preamp is in great condition having been in a smoke free pristine environment since I received it new from Gary in March.  One of the nicest sounding preamps I’ve owned, including Coincident and Aesthetix, but system changes force me to sell.  Has Mundorf Supreme Silver / Oil cap upgrade @ $300, precision cut resistors @ $200, and Russian 1977 6H30P-DR tube purchased from Upscale Audio @ $190.  Includes Ctek charger @  $50 and Power-Sonic battery @ $50 for a total cost of $2,290.  Also has a nice Cocobolo face and remote (volume only).  Stock tube (Russian 6H6) also included.  First two tube pictures are the stock tube, next three are the Russian NOS tube.

My price is $1,500.  Ships from 98424, FedEx, 2 boxes, split shipping cost.

The battery is a Powersonic PS-12180 recommended by Gary.  It is always charged or charging by the Ctek charger when in use.  Once set up you do nothing until the battery needs replacing.

What is the advantage of having the variable gain?  I have a similar unit.  Sonocaps, 6H30DR and a bigger battery.  Alas no variable Gain.

With some partnering amps you may need less gain.  For me it was useful for playing vinyl since my phono stage doesn't provide as much gain as my digital source.  I used the lower gain setting for digital and the higher for vinyl.

Gary can add the variable gain. I had the Dodd buffer and like Clifford Brown, I needed more gain for one of my turntables. Gary suggested that I add a variable gain stage. I too switch back and forth between unity and 6db gain.

Thanks guys.  I'm good then.  The turntable has been retired.  The CDP is running to the outboard DAC and most everything else comes in that way.    I might like the Mundorfs though.
