Does anyone know of any good bass amps that have built-in crossovers?  I'd like to have the ability to adjust the crossover frequency to find what sounds best.  I thought QSC made a couple of amps with this feature but I can't find any.  The only other option I can think of is to buy some f-mod rca low-pass filters but those are fixed.  I'd appreciate any inupt on this. thanks.

QSC Audio offers a module that will plug into the back of some of their amps that will do full digital signal processing.

I use this on my QSC amp for my subs. It is VERY useful for taking care of room nulls and peaks as well as a crossover.

List price is $685.00

I would suggest you check around. Pro Audio is usually discounted fairly well.

Your other option would be to look into a Pro Audio active crossover. They start as low as $100.00. ART and Behringer make models around that price that have variable crossover frequencies.

I know you are looking for an amp with EQ but 99% of the PA amps use fans. Some are very noisy. I returned a QSC PLX 1602 because of the fan noise.

I know that QSC now makes quite fans for the PLX series.

I would recommend a Crown K series amp over any PA amp for Hi Fi use. Cant be beat for subwoofers.

The DBX drive is $499 shipped with a free RTA mic

I am selling a QSC PLX 3402 and I own a Crown K2 so take my comments accordingly.

With this unit the fan will come on when the amp is pushed very hard and for an extended period of time.  Since loudness is subjective, it is hard to say what is too loud.  In my room, it wasn't noticeable (but it was about 15-16' away from me) from my listening spot.

I only used the QSC to drive my dual VMPS Larger subs in a HT setup.  I can say that my pj (Marantz VP12-S1) was much louder.

All that being said...I kept the Crown K2.  The main reason being that the Crown was beat up (ebay purchase) and would be difficult for me to sell.  Since I don't want to keep both, the QSC goes.

I never spent the time to compare which one would drive the subs better.

George,

I have a DCA-3422. I was working with John Gordon, when he was with QSC, to test out the low noise fans. The one that is in my amp has a max noise level of 24 db. In most cases that is below the residual noise floor of the room.

I believe these fans can be ordered through Digi-Key as Pana-flow is the brand name.

The QSC SRA series http://www.qscaudio.com/products/amps/sra/sra.htm
was the project that John was working on right before he left QSC. They have the quiet fans, unbalanced RCA and balanced XLR inputs. They use binding posts and Speak-on terminals for output connections. You can use the DSP modules as a plug-in. They retail from $1500.00 for 250 WPC @ 8 ohms to $2500.00 for 725 wpc @ 8 ohms.

Brian Cheney uses a QSC Audio PL 236 to drive his subs.

I use my amp in bridged mode to drive my Larger Sub wired in parallel. The amp has no trouble working into this load and is rated at 3400 watts. I do feel that you do need this amount of power in HT soundtracks when room EQ is used. It doesn't do too bad a job on music either

Those SRA amps look very nice. If the price was right I would sell my Crown for the SRA with more power.

My girlfriend hates the Crown K series amps in my rack.

There not pretty but they get the job done.[/u]

Wayne,

Ever compare the DCA-3422 to the PLX 3402?

I am almost scared to really listen to my QSC because my Crown K2 looks like this:

As such, I wasn't confident I could get what I paid for it.

A DJ would buy that.. looks like a DJ owned it and traveled with it.  You could always put some bumper stickers on it! ;)

George, if it were mine, I would take the lid off, sand it down to bare metal, then paint it with black enamal.

cost would be <$5
