I use the BDP-1 to play audio, and the Apple TV to play videos, and yes all through a Bryston AMP.     For $100, i think the ATV is a great value and I have no plans to return mine.    No running required either.

The Apple TV works great.

I also just hooked up the Apple Airport Express router to my B100DA via a TosLink optical out. Now I can download music files to my computer and stream them via wifi to the B100 using Apple AirPlay.

AirPlay also works for my iPad and iPhone. I'm really happy with this setup -- it sounds great, and I don't have to transfer files between devices.

As for crowding...the Apple TV is about the size of a hockey puck, so I don't find it adds much to clutter on my TV stand.
