Most Played Records.
« on: 24 May 2014, 03:11 am »
We all seem to have large collections of  either lps , cds or downloads. I have a few hundred  but  it seems that I always play the same dozen records over and over. Do other members gravitate to only a few select favorites or is it just me being too lazy to go to the shelves in the other room?

Mozart especially symphonies 40,41 ... knowing that Mozart was hopelessly broke and he usually worked on commission but these symphonies were 'pure Mozart' and they are poignant as he simply wrote from his heart.
Ein Heldenleben  by Rickard Strauss  .. i love it and its inspiring and its simply beautiful. no one conducts it like Fritz Rainer , and all tube recording as well.
Rachmaninoff -- the last of the romantics .. I think of film noir
Walter Piston ... symphony #2  I so love this composer
Tchaikovsky symphony #1  'Winter Dream'   another one of my favorites   essentially a day dream  any season of the year
 :)

Same here but I have about a dozen jump drives I rotate through. Then I go through my music videos, then repeat. Problem is I've been listening to some of these albums for years and I'm just getting tired of them. So I am always looking for new tunes that I like and add them to the rotation. Then the old stuff doesn't get played as often. :|

It's hard to define what makes a song a hit. My observation is that no two people have the same taste in music, one person likes jazz another likes classical another rock. Even if we can agree on the genre, we then like songs for different reasons.

Generally most people know a hit song when they hear it, but again try defining it, because those same reasons could apply to other songs that aren't hits.

It's not just rhythm and melody, its sounds, tempo, and then add our personalities into the mix. :smoke:

Interesting topic redbook  :thumb:

A quick perusal of my playlist readily provided my top three albums and in these instances, they were all song specific. Portishead's song ~Roads~ on the album Dummy with 207 plays. ~Roads~ was used in an animated tribute for Sophie Lancaster who was murdered for being a Goth. Rozz Williams & Gitane Demone performance of ~Flowers~ from the album Dream Home Heartache with 191 plays. I cannot help but feel that Rozz was saying good-bye. Persephone's song ~Lullaby~ from the album Atma Gyan with 136 plays. A beautiful and poetic work to close your eyes to for the last time. The play numbers are much higher as they do not include playtime on the room system.

Be well...

Or perhaps the question should be rephrased and it should be  asked to our spouses  "Which album/CD is most over played around your house?" : )

Pretty sure my wife would state the following:

Van Morrison: Moondance
Little Feat: Dixie Chicken
Neil Young: Everything
Jimmy Buffett: Everything

Redbook- Greetings.  I think your topic would get more traction if it were under a generic heading instead of an industry one.  Ya might oughta switch it.  Jes sayin.

I think I mix it up pretty good, but I do play maybe 100 cd's far more than others.  They are better recordings and I think that is why I gravitate to them.  I also listen to a particular genre for awhile and then switch it up.  Late last year I was listening to female jazz vocalists maybe 75% of the time, then I switched to classic rock for a few months.  Lately I have been leaning towards folk and for me that includes gaelic.  I haven't played much classical and instrumental jazz in the last year, but I enjoy it and I have a fair amount of jazz.

The classic rock period got me to seek out remastered cd's of the classics.  I am still buying those and some are better done than others.

Good Listening,
Mike
