Delve into your psyche - your music...

After reading a few interesting comments here on AC with respect to the contents of an individual's music collection, I could not help but consider if a personal music collection is a truly honest representation of that person. Perhaps I may be reading more into this at face value but whether a music library contains only a few albums or numbers in the thousands, it does speak volumes about the individual.

When you consider that the contents of a music library can be the result of decades of acquisition and continuous refinement, talk about an open book of your life that is neatly displayed on your music shelves. If music has the ability to effortlessly transport the devoted back over countless years to special or unfortunately, not so special times in your life, why can it not also define the person that you are?

As I am typing away, now and then, I glance over at my music collection, 1300 CDs meet my gaze and as I read the odd album title, I smile at some and others induce a feeling of melancholy - I do not know of any other medium that solicits a truly empathic connection with the artist or their message.

The comments about your music collection from other individuals can also offer a glimpse of how they see you. In my case, family members after looking at some my music have casually inquired as to what coffin did this band just crawl out of? The comments can be much more interesting when I go music shopping before work and people are somewhat curious as to what is in the orange Sonic Boom bag. An appreciation for the darker things in life, the simple comfort of solitude and enjoyment of the fringe is all neatly displayed on my shelve.

Could your music be all defining? Who really knows? Does music compliment or personify the environment that a person lives in or the way they dress? At the very least, a music collection can be a very important thread in the tapestry of the individual.

be well...

I agree with this.music certainly does reflect the person behind the eyes.
While it may not tell all,it certainly does tell much about an individual.

I would certainly wonder about anyone other than children that listens to the mini pops or Justin Beaber.
Unless one happens to be 12.
