Y cables

Hi Guys:
I've got a new experimental project that I'm starting on this weekend. One of the things I need is a Y cable adapter so I can split the audio signal out of the preamp. I picked up a pair of them at GoodGuys Monster cable 1HPY2-F. After I installed them I noticed that my system had taken on a warm tone. It was really evident when I listened to female disc jockeys. These things gotta go!! So I got a pair of Monsters Turbine RCA Y-adapters. Now my system sounds like it did before. Just thought I'd pass this along for anyone out there who might want to split the audio signal out of the preamp.

            Cheers

How bad can 4 inches of wire sound?

We purchased a pair of Radio Shack Gold Series 42-2536 Y Adapters, 1M-2F. In previous lifetimes, we often were astounded at the improvements made in recording kit by replacing the volume pot wiring with something better than the OEM twist tie. In this instance, I was utterly DUMBFOUNDED at the DEGRADATION caused by these adapters. Grey, gritty grunge on a cardboard panel half the size of our listening space!

YMMV

ieales,

I think Charles' initial purchase was the 4" cable with a 1 male and 2 female leads, but he eventually bought Monster Cable's A TYM2F-B 'Turbine Y Connector' and was happy.  They spec out pretty good with teflon insulation, rather than the cheaper delrin that is more common in these brass Y adaptors.

I just bought a pair for myself at Music Direct for $20...will have them next week to evaluate.

This is what they look like:

Chair guy:
Right you are. The turbines do not degrade my system. Netural I'd say.

Charlie,

Great to hear...I have a pair coming midweek or so.  I need only one for my sub, but I'll find some reason to use the other some day.....
