Anyone demo the Anthem Statement D1 yet?  I heard the Anthem AVM20 a long time ago and liked what I heard for the price.  I'm curious how the D1 will stack up to the competition.

I heard it at the HT show in NYC. It sounded great mated with Paeadigm's new signature speakers. I would say it is easily worth the $$$.

witchdoctor,

Did you happen to listen to it in stereo mode as well?  I'm looking for a pre/pro that will provide excellent HT quality as well as stereo to boot.  I had my eye on a Bryston SP1.7 originally, but I'm wary of spending that much dough on what seems to be the most dynamically changing piece in a HT/stereo system. Seems like the competition in the ~$5000 arena is growing.

Yes, they demoed stereo and HT. They were showing off the upsampling capabilities to 192k and it sang beautifully. Very nice air, separation, bass, and very dynamic. I have seen them going on A'gon, you may find a good deal.
You may want to consider a used Meridian 568.2. A $6000 piece a year ago is now going for $3000 on A'gon because of Meridian's new G series.
One reviewer compared it's pre-amp capabilities favorably to his Mark Levinson gear!

KJ.

I own the Anthem D1, paired with the Anthem Statement P5, and the Signature speakers (S8, C5 and 2 pairs of S2).

Great sounding system. Transparency, details, smoothness... I have heard alot of different pre/pros in that price range, but the D1 was the best to my ears. The Bryston was also really incredible, but lacking in the features department a bit for my personnal needs.

The awesome digital stage of the D1, and the upcoming firewire upgrade in 3 or 4 months, with the HDMI switching and video transcoding, were also really important key options for me.

And the P5! Wow! Can give a run for the money to my Bryston 4BSST easily. Anthem did something really good with this 5X325W monster. 2 power cords, 2 dedicated 20A circuit, and no noise-floor at all.

It was well worth the price of admission for me.

But there is so much good offering now in this price range on the market, that it's really personnal preferences, small sonic differences and key features that were the deciding factors in my decision.

Thanks for the great input guys.  It's nice to see some competition out there.  I can understand the purist approach to Bryston's design, but I might be tempted by some of the features on the D1.  Sounds like I'll have to find a dealer somewhere to demo one and compare notes.

As Levesque said, I did demo pretty much his exact same setup.
I can definitley vouch for the D1 as a quality piece!

The Paradigm Signature is also great with such an enormous sound stage. At its price, it is such a bargain! It would be in my top 3 to audition if I were looking for full range beasts!
