How long do the 1/2 inch wide belts last?

I have one that is starting to slip.

Thanks

AutoZone or any auto parts store...belt dressing. It will keep your belt from slipping. Use it very, very sparingly and then wipe off any excess. You want to minimize the risk of gooping up your platter and if you use it as I suggest, you won't have a problem.

Or, take a belt sander with a course belt and rough up your platter... :o

Thanks, right now I'm using a spare belt.

This was in a box in my storage room, but the box fel over, the belt wound up on the ground.

It ended up getting crushed under lots of stuff.

Now it has lots of wrinkles and kinks that grip the platter very well.  Kind of noisy when it goes around the spindle though :-(

Thanks for the tip on the belt dressing.

Why not just make a new belt?

You can order a VHS tape splicer on line for about $20.00  Crack open a VHS tape (or, like me, use 1/2 recording tape, in my case an extra reel I had of Ampex 456 Grand Master) and you will have enough material to make hundreds of belt.  Easy to make, you can put one together in 60 seconds. If you want clear mylar,  you can order it from anyplace online that sells recording tape, or experiment with the VHS tape (I have found the 1/2 recording tape to be stronger, but VHS tape is a handy and cheap way to go.
