Compared to sealed or ported designs TL's are complex, recommend looking into Martin King's MathCad application for the only design method available.  Bob Brines (Brines Acoustics) might help you design it too for a reasonable fee.

Have been a TL fan for 40 years and owned two using 8 inch drivers.  Love the fast, deep, musical bass.  Love that the port output is in phase with the woofer.  Love that in many cases the internal baffle is slanted relative to the driver and so the back wave is directed away to avoid reflections smearing the front wave.

Brines designed/built my current ones that use a full range driver (model M18-F200).  The previous were 6 cubic foot DIY cabinets for woofers (part of a 3-way system) from I. M. Fried kits, circa 1980.  Those were beasts, rated to go 114 dB at 17 Hz, and were too much for any sized room I'd ever afford.  So depending on the driver you select you may only need a 6 inch or even smaller.

Take care.

Paul Kittinger, the author of the above speaker plan that uses Dayton drivers also designs all the transmission line cabinets for the well regarded, excellent sounding Salk Signature Sound speakers like the Songtower and the HT2-TL. A Google search of his name will give you a wealth of speaker info.

Good find J. Fallows.

I'm not terribly impressed with 85 dB/w/m efficiency or ultimate output below 105 dB and less impressed with the need for an 8th order crossover.  Wonder how it sounds.

Single woofer transmission lines tend to have relatively low sensitivity and relatively low power handling.
Sort of an odd combo.
An MTM design is a pretty good solution for that.

Getting one woofer to play that low is not without some penalty,
but I find  that the midrange that comes from these designs is superb.

Salk Songbirds are just such a design. I own them, so I'm familiar.

I think that the 8th order crossover has to do with the metal cone break up.

My experience has been the opposite, seems to me it depends largely on the woofer used.

Yes, I should have qualified that a bit.
